Since 1941, The Planning Council (TPC) has been a trailblazer and advocate in identifying community needs, connecting people with solutions, and improving the lives of children and families. TPC works closely with federal, state, and local governments, alongside a broad network of public and private sector organizations, to meet critical human service needs and drive significant, lasting social change.
Guided by its successful incubate-to-launch program model, TPC hosted its 2nd Annual FUNraiser: Denim After Dark on Friday, September 26, 2025. More than just responding to immediate needs, TPC anticipates change – acting swiftly and creatively through its Innovation Fund, ensuring resources reach those who need them most, exactly when they need them.
Over 100 guests were treated to an unforgettable evening along the scenic Elizabeth River, with a breathtaking sunset backdrop and vibrant atmosphere. Highlights of the night included:
- Signature “Smokey Old Fashioned” cocktails by Tarnished Truth served in custom take-home glasses
- A selection of endless sipsies and tipsies to keep everyone smiling
- Unlimited mouthwatering nibbles and bites from The Harbor Club
- A high-energy performance from premier 9-piece horn and party band, Brasswind
- A suspense-filled wine pull and mystery box raffle
- Rock star photo ops with inflatable instruments at the step-and-repeat
- Heartfelt testimonials from individuals and families who have benefitted from TPC services
- A curated silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind baskets and experiences
TPC would like to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone in attendance and to the incredible supporters who were with TPC in spirit. Proceeds from Denim After Dark will go toward improving the quality of life for individuals and families across our communities, in ways such as:
- Strengthening family foundations by giving parents of children with special needs the time to rest, reconnect, and care for one another
- Providing underprivileged children with access to nutritious meals and quality care
- Enabling individuals experiencing homelessness to secure housing more quickly
- Assisting TPC’s research team study complex social issues and identify solutions to meet our communities’ needs
- Combating community violence and bring conflict resolution classes to children and families
- Alleviating the childcare shortage faced by military families
- Helping TPC’s team better advocate for Virginian households at risk of housing instability
- Reinforcing TPC’s mission by showing admiration for the hardworking, dedicated staff
