What We Do
The Planning Council no longer operates financial assistance programs. In Greater Hampton Roads, the Housing Crisis Hotline is the starting point to locate available resources and financial assistance in the community for rent, utilities and more. Just dial 757-587-4202. Be prepared to answer questions about your current crisis, any income you receive, and more to determine which programs might help you. You may reach a recording but be sure to leave a message and someone will return your call within 24 hours.
Another place to call is 2-1-1, a free Information and Referral service that will identify available resources in the community where you are, and provide phone numbers and information how to locate them.
Sentara employees should log into Sentara’s Wavenet system to read about the HOPE Fund and the assistance it can provide.
You may contact the local Social Service agency in the city or county where you reside or use the links below depending on your location.
The Planning Council offers a variety of community services, such as: Respite Care for qualified US Navy families; coordination and administration of homeless continuums of care and the Homeless Management Information System; managing the USDA Child and Adult Food Program for day care providers; training and technical assistance for day care providers; and a variety of community needs and health assessments, program evaluation; and strategic planning.
The Planning Council does not offer any financial assistance programs for help with housing and utilities. For that, please contact the Housing Crisis Hotline at 757-587-4202.
