We are proud to celebrate Tomika Pitts-Jones, our Respite Care Program Director, whose dedication and heart for service have made a meaningful impact at TPC.
Tomika was born in Laurens, South Carolina, and raised in Hampton, Virginia from the age of two. While much of her extended family remains in South Carolina, most of her immediate family lives nearby. She has two brothers and one sister, along with close relationships with her nieces and nephews. Tomika has been married for 23 years and is the proud mother of an adopted son and a stepson.
Her educational journey began at Thomas Nelson Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Social Science, before transferring to Norfolk State University to study Social Work. Although she initially planned to stop at a bachelor’s degree, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree from Walden University. Guided by her Christian faith, Tomika believes she was called to macro-level social work and feels confident she is exactly where she is meant to be.
Tomika joined TPC in 2010 and will celebrate 16 years of service this May. She began as a childcare provider utilizing CACFP and was later recruited to serve as a Field Monitor. Over time, she transitioned into a full-time role and eventually moved fully into the Respite Care program. She credits TPC with supporting her professional growth and allowing her to pursue higher education while working.
Before joining TPC, Tomika operated an in-home daycare and, along with her husband, served as foster parents for 12 years. They have also led a ministry and operated a neighborhood food pantry for more than 20 years.
What Tomika values most about her work is the camaraderie and supportive environment at TPC. She finds fulfillment in serving families, providers, and the community. Outside of work, she enjoys running her food pantry, gardening, and relaxing with shows on her iPad. If given the chance to have lunch with anyone, she would choose entertainer Chris Brown or civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
