ABNB grant will allow The Planning Council to continue to connect people with agencies, nonprofits, and other organizations in the human services area.
December 16, 2025, Norfolk, VA. ABNB Community Foundation awarded The Planning Council (TPC) a grant for $3,500 in recognition of their outstanding work to improve lives in the communities that it serves.
Most of the unique work TPC does is funded through federal and local grants. TPC cannot expand their work to positively impact more lives without support from donors like ABNB Community Foundation. TPC relies on generosity such as this to increase the footprint of their current programs and develop new initiatives and programs to further carry out their mission.

With ABNB’s generosity, The Planning Council can say yes to more projects and activities that address community need.”
The Planning Council’s mission “to Identify community needs, connect people with solutions, and improve lives” synchronizes well with the mission of the ABNB Community Foundation “to measurably improve the lives of families and children in the communities we serve.”
Grants such as this one help The Planning Council:
- Ensure over 11,000 children below federal poverty level have healthy and nutritious meals each day as a sponsor through the USDA Child & Adult Care Food Program, by offering compliance monitoring to the 1,100 childcare centers and homes that serve food to the children in their care.
- Serve about 400 Navy and Air Force families that have a child with special needs with our Respite Care Program. These families receive up to 32 hours/month, through the DoD benefit program. By granting compliance monitoring to the 200 providers who offer care to these children in their homes, these parents can now have date night, go to the grocery store . . . alone, go to the little league game of their other child, or just take a nap.
- Ensure area homeless programs receive millions in federal and state funding by facilitating monthly meetings as the lead agency for the Continuum of Care on the Peninsula and Southside.
- Support 365 local partners utilizing the Homeless Management Information System database to fulfill all the HUD requirements for data compilation and reporting.
- Assist 100’s of people experiencing a catastrophic life event to access their Employer Assistance Funds in coordination with Sentara Hospital and the City of Chesapeake. TPC distributes well over a million dollars/year.
- Conduct community needs assessments for any Hampton Roads locality, including the Eastern Shore, to meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
To reach beyond these various programs and continue fulfilling growing community needs, TPC must secure funding to acquire the appropriate staff time and expertise on the topic.
